A Perfect Multi-Family Escape at The Markdale Retreat

The Markdale Retreat

I just wrapped up the most amazing stay at The Markdale Retreat with one other family and three kids total, and honestly—it was one of those weekends where everyone left feeling rested, connected, and already talking about coming back.

If you’ve ever tried planning a trip with multiple families, you know how hard it is to find a place that truly works for both kids and adults. This one absolutely nailed it.

A Space Designed for Families (and Sanity)

The home is massive—but in the best way. There was more than enough room for everyone to spread out without ever feeling disconnected. The kids immediately claimed their designated kids’ rooms, complete with twin beds, books, dollhouse toys, a play kitchen, and thoughtful little touches that made it feel exciting and welcoming for them right away.

Meanwhile, the adults loved that there were multiple cozy gathering spaces, so you could be together—or sneak off for quiet moments when needed.

Family Nights Done Right

One of our favourite nights was a family movie night on the big screen. Setting up Netflix, Prime, and Disney+ was quick and easy, and the kids were in heaven.

Another highlight? Family paint night. We followed a simple YouTube step-by-step tutorial, laid everything out, and everyone joined in. The kids were so proud of their artwork—and honestly, everyone did such a great job.

We also did a family-style pizza night in the huge upstairs kitchen. Each child decorated their own pizza, which turned dinner into an activity (aka: parenting win).

Grown-Up Moments Matter Too

While the kids were happily entertained, my bestie and I finally had time to catch up on our favourite shows, sip coffee, and do face masks at night—something that just doesn’t happen back home.

We also fully took advantage of the espresso martini cart, which led to some great laughs once the kids were settled.

And the upstairs master bathroom? I’m obsessed.

The freestanding soaker tub, bath salts, bath bombs, and the most scenic view made it feel like a spa retreat. That alone felt worth the stay.

Kids Were Never Bored (Not Once)

This might be the biggest win: I didn’t hear “I’m bored” a single time.

The gaming room was a huge hit—foosball, ping-pong, basketball, Connect Four, and more. It was the perfect way for the kids to burn off energy, especially during winter.

They also became obsessed with hide-and-seek. The house is so large with so many great hiding spots that they played almost all day, every day.

Outside, they played in the snow, made “outdoor ice cream,” and explored—while we literally sat back, read our books, and relaxed. That balance is rare.

Thoughtful Details That Make It Feel Like Home

Both the pantry and kitchens were fully stocked with all the essentials. I never once felt like I had to “make do.” It genuinely felt like being at home—without the stress of being at home.

That’s the magic of this place.

Final Thoughts

The Markdale Retreat is the kind of place that makes multi-family trips feel effortless.

Kids are entertained. Adults are relaxed. Everyone reconnects.

If you’re planning a getaway with friends, kids, or extended family and want a space that truly works for everyone—this is it.

We left refreshed, happy, and already dreaming about our next stay.
