Sheppard Quarry
I came across this space looking for milkweed last year and finally had the chance to explore ‘part’ or it. It’s huge. The trail system is big and I suggest using the @alltrails app to navigate it.
The marshy area of Sheppard Quarry is located right behind the Walmart in Waterdown.
There is a small parking lot where you can access the stroller friendly (when dry) pathway to the quarry. There are two trails that loop around both ponds.
It looks to be a great place to find turtles, frogs and a variety of wildlife.
When we went the pathways were very flooded after the amount of rain we had.
The trails through the forest are absolutely beautiful. They are not stroller friendly. They can be muddy, rocky and steep in some areas.
The woods are listed as both Clappison Woods and Blacks Woods on All Trails and Google Maps.
The trail system can span all the way to Kerncliff Park in Burlington and past Smokey Hollow Falls.
There are a lot of loops and turns in the woods so I highly suggest using navigation.
Lower Rockcliffe Loop is listed at 2.6km’s and was a very nice walk to get started.
I can’t wait to explore more.
Have you been? Do you have a favourite trail?
